Supporting Healthy Ageing in Ukraine: Assessing Readiness for Integrated Care. We are proud to share our recent collaboration with HelpAge International on a critical new report: "Assessment of the Capabilities and Readiness of Implementation of ICOPE in Ukraine." As Ukraine navigates the dual challenges of rapid population ageing and the devastating impacts of the ongoing war, providing comprehensive, people-centered care for older adults is more urgent than ever. Our team worked closely with HelpAge to evaluate Ukraine's readiness to implement the World Health Organization’s Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) approach.
Key insights from the assessment:
💡 The Challenge: While Ukraine has a reformed primary healthcare system and a wide network of social services, care for older people remains highly fragmented. Currently, integrated care relies more on the informal efforts of families and caregivers than on coordinated system functions.
💡 The Opportunity: A system-wide transformation is possible. Ukraine has strong professional commitment, active civil society, and a growing policy interest in healthy ageing.
💡 The Path Forward: The report recommends establishing inter-ministerial leadership, formalizing coordination roles, creating shared digital systems, and strengthening community-based care to make integrated care the norm, rather than the exception.
We are honored to have played a role in producing this evidence-based assessment to help policymakers, humanitarian actors, and healthcare professionals build a more resilient and inclusive system for older Ukrainians.
